With more than 42 years of experience, Gus is a dedicated and highly qualified dentist in Whangarei. Although now semi-retired, we are privileged to have him work at youDENTAL on a locum basis, and patients respect his expertise. Gus focuses on providing a relaxed, informative and friendly environment, which has seen patients come from all over the North, putting their trust in his care.
Graduating in 1977 from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, he has witnessed a rapid change in the world of dentistry and prides himself on staying informed of the latest advancements.
Gus moved to New Zealand with his family in 2002 and continues to enjoy the warm hospitality of Whangarei and the wider North. He believes teeth can last a lifetime with the right treatment and his goal is always a long-term approach, over a ‘quick fix’.
Outside of the clinic, Gus values spending time with his grandchildren.
After graduating from the University of Otago, where Tony completed a Bachelor of Dental Surgery, he swapped the deep South for the winterless North.
Joining youDENTAL in January 2019, Tony is enjoying working alongside a multi-disciplined team.
Before becoming a dentist, he worked in the software engineering industry, so the latest aesthetical and digital dentistry technologies are something he embraces. Tony also has a keen interest in prosthodontics (dentistry that focuses on restoring and replacing teeth). Crowns, bridges, dentures or veneers to provide a smile makeover are his passion. A tailored treatment plan, along with excellent communication, ensures his patients leave youDENTAL feeling empowered and confident.
Tony is an asset to his patients. He is fluent in both English and Mandarin, Chinese, and is a lifelong learner, studying research dental sciences in his spare time.
Patients who make an appointment with Yun often give feedback about his positivity and encouragement towards great oral health. He prides himself on making everyone feel relaxed and well informed about the procedure ahead.
Yun believes great workmanship requires precision and good communication, along with a focus on being gentle wherever possible. He would like his patients to know that he understands scaling can be considered quite painful, but he assures the least discomfort – with the very best outcome.
Yun is a University of Otago graduate where he studied a Bachelor of Oral Health. After qualifying in 2017, he started his career as an Oral Health Therapist and enjoyed working in Christchurch, Whangarei and Auckland. He has now returned to Whangarei – a wonderful part of the world according to Yun, and when not at work, you can find him at the gym or at the beach trying to catch fish!
